Understanding The Story Behind The Music

Just as America is the home of so many immgrants from all over the world, it is also the home of so many different styles of music which were influenced by musical styles introduced by immigrants who settled here. As a result, these various musical styles are associated with regions in which they took root. It can be Cajun music from Louisiana where many Acadians from Canada settled, or rural country music which is believed to have been influenced by settlers of Scotch-Irish descent whose dances influenced the sound of country music as we know it today. As modern technology emerged in country music in the 1940s with the sound of electric guitars and peddle steel, there were those individuals who preferred to stick with the more acoustic based traditional sounds. One man, known as the Father of Bluegrass music, was Bill Monroe.

While Bill Monroe experimented with the then-emerging modern country sound of the 1940s, he learned there were others such as Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs who formed the first bluegrass band in 1945, Bill Monroe and The Bluegrass Boys. The Distinct Style Of Blue Grass Music

Bluegrass music is one of the most easily recognized styles of American country music. The typical bluegrass band consists of a fiddler, a banjoist, a guitarist, and a mandolin player, all of whom take turns on solo improvisation, much in the manner of a 1920s jazz band. The People Who Enjoy Blue Grass Music

Bluegrass is a variation of traditional country music that started in the 1940s and its popularity continues to increase with a variety of listeners. Initially bluegrass music was merely seen as a niche genre. However, over the years it has been prominent in popular culture. For example, the soundtrack to ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou?’ won a Grammy award.
